Robotic Sacral Colpopexy
Da Vinci Robotic Cystectomy (also known as Robotic Assisted Cystectomy) is the most advanced method of performing Cystectomy. This minimally invasive procedure coined its name from the Da Vinci© Robot, which is manufactured by “Intuitive Surgical.” The Robot combines the latest achievements in medical technology and laparoscopy including:
Pelvic prolapsed or descensus is the dropping of pelvic organs through the vaginal vault (see our brochure on Pelvic Prolapse, Cystocele, and Rectocele). The most advanced surgical treatment for pelvic prolapsed or descensus is robotic sacral colpopexy. Robotic sacral colpopexy is the use of robotic assisted laparoscopic technology to suspend the vaginal vault from the bony sacrum. Six small port sites, about fingernail size, allow instruments to be placed into the abdomen, including a high powered camera. This enables placement of a supporting mesh to be secured to the anterior (front) and posterior (back) surface of the vagina and then the other end of the mesh is secured high in the pelvis to the pubic bone. This mesh suspension permanently eliminates pelvic prolapsed through the vagina. Most patients go home from the hospital the next day and return to their usual activities about 2 weeks after surgery. |
